New Garage Door (Installed) Cost in Dallas, TX (2026)

Last reviewed Reviewed by the Garage Repair Quote editorial team 3 min read 9 sources

Short answer

A new garage door in Dallas typically costs $700 to $2,690 installed for a single door and $1,000 to $3,490 for a double in 2026, based on HomeGuide's national ranges with labor adjusted for Dallas repair wages (BLS, May 2025). Material, insulation and any change to the opening move the price most.

Key facts

  • BLS puts the May 2025 median wage for general maintenance and repair workers at $23.49 an hour in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX metro, against $23.84 nationally, a ratio of 0.985.[1]
  • HomeGuide (Jul 2025) puts a single garage door at $700 to $2,700 installed and a double at $1,000 to $3,500 nationally, with installation labor at $200 to $500.[3]
  • Homewyse applies a 0.88 location factor to labor for ZIP 75201, which brings its basic 25 gauge steel door install to about $930 to $1,501, against $969 to $1,573 at its default ZIP.[5]
  • Dallas City Code Chapter 52 exempts a door replacement from a permit when the new door is the same size and type and no wall framing changes, but not in historic, conservation or planned development districts.[6]

Our Dallas estimates for 2026, door, hardware and installation labor included. "Typical" is the midpoint of each range.

DoorLowTypicalHigh
Single (one-car) door$700$1,700$2,690
Double (two-car) door$1,000$2,250$3,490
Insulated single door$750$1,320$1,890
Insulated double door$1,500$2,600$3,690 or more

The single and double rows start from HomeGuide's installed ranges[3]; the insulated rows start from HomeGuide's insulated door ranges[4]. Each uses the same $200 to $500 labor band[3].

How we got this number

  1. National price. HomeGuide puts a single door at $700 to $2,700 installed and a double at $1,000 to $3,500[3].
  2. Labor inside that price. HomeGuide puts installation labor at $200 to $500 per door[3].
  3. Dallas wage factor. No federal wage code covers garage door installers, so we use SOC 49-9071, Maintenance and Repair Workers, General: a May 2025 median of $23.49 an hour in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX[1] and $23.84 nationwide[2]. Factor: 0.985.
  4. Our estimate. Reduce the labor part by 1.5%, then round to the nearest $10.

Double door$1,000 to $3,500[3]$200 to $500[3]0.985[1][2]$1,000 to $3,490n/a

The math: $2,700 minus ($500 × 0.015) is $2,692.50, rounded to $2,690. $700 minus ($200 × 0.015) is $697, rounded to $700.

Homewyse, ZIP 75201. Homewyse models one 25 gauge steel, 4 panel roll-up door. At its default ZIP it gives $969 to $1,573, with 3.8 hours of labor at $202 to $430[5]. For ZIP 75201 it applies a 0.88 factor to labor[5], which on those line items gives about $930 to $1,501. Homewyse stopped responding before we could read its live ZIP 75201 output, so that figure is our arithmetic on its published inputs. It sits inside our single door range because it prices one basic door; ours spans every material HomeGuide covers.

Permit fees are not in either figure. A same-size swap is usually exempt in Dallas[6]; we did not find a current official Dallas fee for door work that does need a permit, so ask the contractor to quote it.

What changes the price in Dallas

  • The opening. Widening or raising the opening changes framing, which takes the job out of the Chapter 52 door exemption[6].
  • Your district. Dallas says its permit exemptions do not apply in historic, conservation and planned development districts[7].
  • Insulation. Insulated doors cost more[4]. In Dallas heat they matter most when the garage is attached to living space or used as a workspace[3].
  • Wind rating. Dallas is not in the Texas windstorm program, which covers coastal counties[9], so no TDI certificate applies. Wind-rated doors still carry a label with their design pressure, and not every door is rated[8].
  • Removal and hauling. HomeGuide prices old door removal at $50 to $250 when it is not in the labor fee[3].
  • Hail. After a hailstorm, check whether insurance covers a replacement before you choose a door.

Questions to ask a Dallas contractor

  • Are you registered with the City of Dallas, and will you pull a permit if the job needs one[6]?
  • Is my house in a historic, conservation or planned development district[7]?
  • Does the quote include new tracks, springs, removal and haul-away?
  • What wind rating does this door carry[8]?
  • What are the warranties on the door, the springs and the labor?

When to call a pro

  • Every new door install: springs and cables are under high tension and need a trained installer.
  • The opening must change size, or the old frame shows rot once the door is out.
  • Your home is in a historic or conservation district: confirm permit needs with the city first[7].
  • To see national prices by material, read garage door installation cost.

More questions

Do I need a permit to replace a garage door in Dallas?

Often not, if the new door matches the old one in size and type and no framing changes. Chapter 52 lists that kind of door replacement as exempt. The exemption does not apply in historic, conservation or planned development districts, so check your property first.

Is a new garage door cheaper in Dallas than the national average?

Not by much. Most of the price is the door itself, and BLS puts Dallas repair wages only 1.5% under the national median. Our Dallas range comes out about $10 under HomeGuide's national figures at the high end.

Does a Dallas garage door need a wind rating?

Dallas County is outside the Texas windstorm program, so no state windstorm certificate applies. Since the 2021 International Residential Code, wind-rated doors carry a permanent label with their design pressure. Ask the installer what rating the door has and whether the city requires one.
